L’area che ruota attorno al lago di Como – Valtellina, Valchiavenna, Ticino, retroterra comasco, medio Adda – non è ancora stata inquadrata come oggetto unitario d’indagine. La ricerca che porto avanti si propone di studiare nella regione, tra la seconda metà del secolo X e i primi decenni del XIII, le forme di organizzazione politica a livello locale, prestando attenzione alle vie di preminenza sociale interne ai diversi centri rurali, e in parallelo progetti di respiro più ampio, messi in campo dall’impero, da enti religiosi milanesi e comaschi, dai comuni delle due città e altri attori ancora. Al contempo si tenterà di fare luce, in prospettiva diacronica, su problematiche di natura economica: l’assetto del mercato fondiario e della produzione; il grado di integrazione delle diverse nicchie ecologiche che la regione ospita, dando vita a produzioni specializzate, con la determinazione di reti di scambio; il peso che in questi flussi hanno la componente redistributiva interna alla grande proprietà e quella prettamente commerciale.
The area surrounding Lake Como – Valtellina, Valchiavenna, Ticino, the Como hinterland, the Adda basin immediately beyond Lecco – has not been yet framed as a unitary object of investigation. Between the second half of the 10th century and the first decades of the 13th century, the research I am carrying out aims to study the forms of political organisation at local level in the region, paying attention to the ways of social pre-eminence within the various rural centres, and in parallel the broader projects implemented by the Empire, the Milanese and Como religious bodies, the municipalities of the two cities and other players. At the same time, an attempt will be made to shed light, in a diachronic perspective, on issues of an economic nature: the structure of land market and production; the degree of integration of the various ecological niches in the region, that give rise to specialised production, with the determination of exchange networks; the weight in these flows of the redistributive component within the large estates and the purely commercial one.
